been trying and failing
I totally believe in starting over. Now that you have; what do you think you need to do that is different? Often people find support meetings, counseling, or treatment to be the necessary addition to a sober plan. For me I had to adopt the mantra of "I will not drink...no matter what". It brought times of being lonely, mad, sad, but it helped me stay sober. The longer I was sober, the easier it really did become. Use this site for support; vent away, ask questions, linger, read old posts, check out new posts. And I also suggest doing something for someone else.....that always makes me feel better.
One thing you're doing right is getting honest with yourself and - by posting here - others.
What you're doing isn't working. Start with an honest assessment of what you have - and have not - tried.
If you'd like to share that with us, we may be able to help you take a closer look.

HI.
Yes being honest with ourselves is about the best #1 thing to do for our self. Next I’d vote accepting the fact that we cannot drink again in safety is the reason most have so much trouble stopping. It called denial which is a huge problem at different stages of sobriety and results in the deaths of too many.
The best words for me at AA was KEEP COMING, now a lot of years later I say the same thing.
BE WELL

It may be best to stop fighting and start there.
