Hi Steve
Im in the UK too...my XAH went to the doctors and got a referral to a local drug and alcohol detox centre. He joined a support group daily with daily librium prescribed by a doctor at the centre, for as long as it was needed. Then ongoing support was provided with counselling, AA etc. Wondering if there might be something similar near you?

That's a big step I reckon! I've found since I stopped drinking that as each night goes past when I haven't drank, it's become more normal for me. Hooray for new habits and routines. It'll get better. Hang in there!

Way to go Steve! Try to see a doc or at least check your BP at walmart - if it's high you need medical attention. Little to no sleep at first is a common complaint (me too). You can do this but don't hesitate to get help if needed.
I agree with what has been said regarding safe detox. I also want to add that once you are sober, you may want to seek therapy to help you work through the birth trauma. Birth is extremely traumatic for both parents even when it goes well. Your difficulty with this is legitimate and should be addressed. I had a traumatic birth and severe postpartum depression that set in right away. I am still working through it, and therapy has been helpful. I wish you the very best!
