Sleeplessness?

Good morning all - wondering if anyone has had any problems with sleeplessness or insomnia initially after quitting? I'm going on day 7, been sleeping just fine up till now.

Then yesterday sucked as far as urges go, but I held it together, ate a big dinner late, and went to bed around 12:30 and woke up at 3 with no chance of going back to sleep. I don't feel tired at all at the moment, but I'm sure my ass will be dragging later. Anyone else experience this?

Yes. Insomnia in early sobriety is so common there is a whole forum on the topic.

Insomnia/Nightmares - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information

Insomnia made staying sober more difficult for me. After a few nights of very little sleep my decision-making would be impacted. I plowed through, though, and now I usually sleep like a log. This morning I woke up and my 50 lb dog was on top of the blankets between my legs. Never even felt her crawl into the bed!

Congrats on 7 days!

Thanks for the post. The exact same thing is happening to me now - I'm on day 10 now and until the night of day 8, I was having great sleeps. Now it takes almost 2 hours to get to sleep once I am in bed and I wake up 2-3 times a night. I'm going to try some melatonin tonight and see if it helps.

It's pretty common Kraszy...different people struggle with it for various lengths of time...for me it was a week or so, maybe two.

Thanks guys - good to know that it's common. After reading some of the stuff in the insomnia forum Nonsensical mentioned, I think I totally screwed myself napping from 4-6 yesterday afternoon and drinking coffee when I woke up from said nap lol. Oops. At least I caught up on some Netflix!

Well done on a week sober ! Yeah, there was one night when I didn't sleep at all, I think perhaps the fourth of fifth, and a few where it was 3am ish before I crashed.

Sleeping fine now, on day 19. Hang in there.
