Not much to say...

I'm logging in because I told myself if I feel weak that before I would have a drink I would log in....well here is the situation and I should be able to power my way through it, but can't take it for granted, too much stacking up in favor of a glass of wine and the voices is just whispering right now....

Saturday night, raining like all day, I'm tired, get to set the clock back tonight so I get an extra hour of sleep in the am, it is colder so I'm going to put a fire on, wife is cooking and having a glass of wine (that has been chilling in the refrig for 3 days..so it is ice cold), kids are playing nicely mainly because they are a little tired from yesterday, I'm finishing up some work and studying. I won't even try to say I'll just have one glass, wine is like salt-n-vinegar potato chips...once you have one you need to finish the bag.

My counter argument, while I feel tired and sluggish, I would definitely feel more tired and more sluggish tomorrow if I had wine, which would definitely lead to another failed day, because it will be even colder tomorrow. I would have to start at day #1 AGAIN. It would delay me feeling really good and getting back to how I felt on Day #16. I probably wouldn't play Crazy 8's with the kids tonight (they are really looking forward to it) and then would wake up feeling depressed telling myself I'm not a good Dad, etc. etc. and be kicking myself the entire day.

Nothing good comes from Alcohol, I don't need alcohol in my life!!
Okay thanks for listening, I needed to "verbalize my arguments

Very good job, playing the tape to the end. When we drink, it is never the ending we want, sometimes it just takes the ability to see that for us to stop. I would say make some yummy ice cream sundaes to go with Crazy Eights! Super Dad!!

Have a great night with your family.

Great job. Try remembering how your past drinking went.

If you were to have one, it would become months of drinking.

There is no benefit to drinking. It's just a habit.

Ice cream, for the win!

I have to get back into an old habit I had 1st sobriety - repeating the mantra "Alcohol is nothing but poison for me". And it truely is - for me.

I still use this "playing it forward" method after 2 1/2 years of sobriety...it works! Only now I don't have to do it as often and it's not as hard. Drinking is just a sometimes random thought that goes in one side of the head and right out the other!

Thanks everyone, I think I made it through, although now I set the clock backwards.
It was a little difficult, but I'm glad I posted and reminded myself why I shouldn't.

It does help to plan something specific to do so you have to stay straight for it. I'm taking my daughter to visit my mom tomorrow, so I kept reminding myself that I can't be hung over for that. It has helped. I hope you had fun playing crazy 8s with the kids!

Hope you sleep well. Fixing dinner and drinking wine was my release after work. I thought I really liked cooking but I know it really was the wine......this is the hardest part for me right now.

Loulu - the first time I quit I was the same way, always had a drink while I cooked. I switched to sparkling water and juice because I was just so used to having something to drink during that time. Eventually I didn't notice that I wasn't getting a buzz from it. And my cooking improved dramatically.
