I Need People!!

I used to be a social butterfly...Always out with friends (most involved drinking) For the past couple of years I have sunk into a place where, I want to be around no one, exect my bottle, go nowhere and not talk to anyone. These posts are the most communication I have had with ppl in a very long time!!! Every show I watch or everywhere I look, ppl are drinking. How do you guys handle it?? I'll give you one thing, You all are very Strong!!! I want to be that Strong too!!! How do you accomplish this????

I've gotten to the point I think it's best to avoid friends who drink and social gatherings where drinking is the main activity. I try to keep busy with things that don't involve drinking, bicycling, movies, walks with the dog, swimming, going to the gym. It's not being strong it's just avoiding certain people and places where my addictive voice can try to get control. Keep trying

Back when I first got sober, I was pretty active in AA.
I also read a lot of positive articles to keep my mind off of drinking.
Mostly, it was just not allowing myself a lot of idle time.

I can relate to what you are saying Kim1972, I have done the same thing over the years with my drinking. My own company was much easier to deal with then to deal with other people. Being that I made it easy to not get around other drinkers much. Now I work, and go to meetings, at the meetings I pay attention and listen to those that have what I need. Get numbers of those that have what you want, and use those numbers when you feel the urge to drink. I do this and it is working for me. You don't have to think of not drinking forever, just don't do today.

Hey Kim1972-
How do you accomplish this????
For me I had to reinvent myself. I focused on learning nutrition, learning new ways of preparing food, as well as fitness. This helped distract my mind from my old life style. In essence, I did the following:
"...to create a life where alcohol just didn't belong." ~(Ethos23)

Kim, battling this is not easy, but you can do it. I'm still early in the recovery process, but spending as much time as I can reading here and posting when I can has helped tremendously.

Best of luck!

Hi and welcome Kim

How hard is sobriety? Very hard - but you're not alone - there's an inexhaustible supply of help and support here, and elsewhere

When do you know you are in the clear? Not sure what you mean by in the clear Kim?

How hard is it to be around others drinking???

Very hard ion the beginning. I made the choice not to put myself in that situation for a while...not until I was used to being sober and knew for sure that I preferred me and my life that way

D
