You know cats basically see you as a massive, weird cat? That's why they bring you birds and stuff, because they think you're rubbish at being a cat and need help so you don't die.
So they're pretty much going
"I brought you this bird out of pity as I've literally never seen you hunt anything. You can't even pounce properly. The fact you're still alive amazes me."
