Welcome to the boards. One big global SR family - that's my favourite thing here, night or day it's always active.
I decided abstinence was the only way for me. I have seen on here posts describing alcohol as a lift going down, but you can choose to get off anytime before it gets to the bottom. Glad I got off when I did. I tried moderation many times, but in the end just gave in to the fact that once I have one drink it's an unstoppable chain of events.

Cravings can be tricky to deal with but I usually try making sure that i'm hydrated and ive eaten well, it also helps to know that cravings DO pass and all you have to do is let them pass.
When you have a craving try to remind yourself of the terrible things that happen when you drink and the cravings pass. The more you practice the easier it gets

I can't see anyone ever going back to normal drinking. Personally, if I could have I would have. The more I tried slowing down the worse I got. The fact that I get the occasional craving tells me I can't have just one. It will always be a first drink
