I drank pretty close to death. It's not easier. None of my problems were solved...in fact I got more problems and the ones I had got worse...and I lost everything I held dear.

You've posted like this for a long time Charlee. This stuff is not going to go away spontaneously on its own, IMO.

do you still have a counsellor/therapist/Dr Charlee?

I don't go to a counselor anymore, got to too expensive. I don't do much anymore and I know that needs to change.

I have times like this. Those thoughts actually scare me to a stronger resolve. SR has helped me so much during those times, too. Reading about someone just coming back and being on day 1, going thru all of that horror of the early days of detox and knowing there are some that never come back because they can't. . .well, never never never again. I'm sure you don't want a Day 1 again.

Stay with us. Talk with us. Just don't drink.

Not great, but kinda hanging in there. I bought a small bottle on Friday. I haven't opened it and I haven't dumped it either.

Do you have any plans for it? Dumping it would be a great idea in my opinion.

Hi Charliee!

The sooner you dump that bottle, the sooner you can stop thinking about it. Won't that be a relief?

Another vote for dumping. It's not the answer Charliee.

I find some odd comfort just knowing is there.
I think your addiction does, for sure.

How much drinking and for how long do you drink once that small bottle is open?

If your anyone like me, once I take that first drink, I will be drunk in no time at all.
Stuck once again in a pointless life as a drunk. No telling how long it would take to get out of that hole.

Please DUMP IT! Please

I don't know, Charliee, but after following your comments for the time I've been here, it seems as though you've been missing, maybe even mourning something else besides alcohol.

Dump it. I keep a few toxic chemicals in my home, mostly for cleaning, but I'd never consider drinking any of them.

I remember you Charliee from when I first joined last year.

When I see your avatar pic, I see someone who deserves to be happy and healthy.

I hope you don't drink.

Going much better, for now. I need to figure out why I feel like I'm needing an escape. I just get so overwhelmed and just want immediate gratification. My life is in such a better place and I am very grateful, but sometimes I just want to tune it all out, but I know the guilt and shame will be so overwhelming

Hi Charliee,

I think that wanting to escape and tune out for a period of time is completely normal and natural for all of us. Everyone needs breaks and some time when we don't need to deal with the mundane facts of reality... There are many ways to do this healthily, I think. What have you tried? I like to go on short trips, enjoy a massage or some more complex treatment at a spa. I like the kind of spa experience of spending some time in an isolation tank - no better escape and tuning out! I listen to relaxing music, and I almost never watch television or read the news in the evenings, much prefer spending it with a book. Or a movie I choose.

I also meditate and practice yoga, although I would not call these "escape" or "tuning out", more the opposite, but very relaxing.

If you would like immediate gratification: some service work/volunteering that is not very complex, new foods, sex, a good conversation... not sure what sort of things you enjoy best.

What I've listed here are the things that tend to relax me and provide a rewarding experience best, without much effort. But we are different and need to find what works...

The biggest problem with alcohol is that while it does provide immediate (and short term) release, as soon as it's worn off, everything gets much worse, not speaking of the devastating long-term effects, as you know well. Don't go that way, please!

Hello

How about something like this?

In NYC, instead of the desert or wherever you are.

How are you?
