Slight urge to drink

As I was looking through the weekly grocery store advertisements I noticed a seasonal beer that I always looked forward to catch my eye. It was proudly promoted on the front page alongside a sale on chicken! After the thought of "Yippee it's coming!" was the realization that I will never buy or drink it again. Theses small temptations are good at reminding me where I'm at and where I want to be.

On a side note thank you to this forum for giving me and others a platform to share our problems!

Hi.
Baby steps like that kind of thinking count so much in the overall goal to stay sober. They, one day at a time add up leading to a strong sober foundation.

BE WELL

Yeah, can't escape all the daily reminders, strong!

Funny: Yesterday I posted a photo to another thread here, using an online hosting site that requires one to watch a short video ad, then type in a captcha phrase. The ad that popped up for me? Was for Absolut vodka, which was my preferred brand. I just had to roll my eyes and chuckle.

Yeah, I used to be triggered when walking past displays of wine glasses in department stores. The other day I walked past that area and completely forgot to feel a thing.

The more you resist the stronger you get.

Funny it happened to me yesterday at the grocery store too. As I went to the cash I walked by the beer cooler and saw boxes and boxes of beer - I think they were winking at me. I silently flipped them the bird in my mind and kept walking. I woke up today sober and proud.

Earlier this week I was at the grocery store and as I passed the beer and wine aisle, it was like everything else went into soft focus, and the beer and wine was in sharp, bright contrast. Yeesh.

I guess these are learning moments. Every time we resist an urge or thought of drinking, we get a little stronger.

I agree 100% that after the initial sight of it then thinking to myself (I don't need or want it), I felt a small victory.

I'm just avoiding the alcohol aisle for now. Not worth it. But an ad shoved in my face -sharp intake of breath, and moving on.

I just find it amazing that my life has changed in two short weeks away from an expensive, gripping addiction to freedom, free time and light.

Sod off, booze ads. I don't need you anymore.

It's everywhere isn't it, here in uk there are tv adverts, cheap booze in all the stores and now it's coming up to xmas there are even more 'offers' and also alcoholic gift sets lol. No escaping it. Well done for being so strong it's a great feeling

Those little successes add up quickly, and they all make you stronger. Good for you having the thought so quickly. You're doing great!

I silently mouth "F YOU!" or repeat over & over, "Don't need you. Don't want you" when & if I have to go down that aisle. I try to avoid it, but in my grocery store it's right by the dairy section so sometimes it's unavoidable.
