Thanks man, that is a heartwarming story and one that helps reinforce my sobriety today.

Particularly the part about the transition from asking what's wrong with you to helping others.

In trying to work on that myself.. Helping wherever I can, yet still struggling with emotional and body-mind issues that have emerged in sobriety

Your post offers hope and inspiration and I am happy for you!

That was an amazing story. Doing a complete 180 like that and sticking to it for a year now is truly inspirational. Congratulations and I wish you 100 more sober years!

Wow, thank you everybody! This is pretty intense! I have to add a sidenote to my story. The day before my last drink, where/how I got my last drink actually...I was walking around on the street after I'd lost my ID on the bus. I had like 12 dollars cash to my name. I went to a liquor store for beer and they wouldn't sell me any (no ID). Went to a C store, same thing. So I tried to talk people out in the parking lot to buying some for me. I come across this guy and ask him and as we're talking, we both notice we seem familiar. Well, this guy was one of my best friends from 8th grade. Hadn't seen him since. Well he agrees to buy me the booze but after he gave it to me he was like "Is there something wrong Wade? I notice you smell like booze. Are you in trouble?" I just told him the long short of it (not that I was going to isolate and hope not to wake up) but that I was breaking up with my wife, had no job etc. And he told me basically that no matter what stuff always gets better. I just kinda yeah manned him, took his phone # had him drop me off at the hotel. Well, this morning I saw him in church with his wife. First time I'd seen him since all this. I talked to him for a while welcomed him to the church. Told him I was sorry I'd approached him the way I did last time and that I was glad to see him again under better circumstances. There is something at work in my life today that's not just me anymore folks. I'm glad to have this website as a part of my journey and I thank you all for reading and support.
