Technology On The March!

I was in the midst of Semiconductor Biz Worldwide.

Cheaper/more powerful IC Chips are what pack so much power into items like Cell Phones. The same is true for Hearing Aids. Further, Software 'profiling' [the good kind] allows for all sorts of individualized adjustment to the Person. That's what is stored in the Audiologist's PC, and loaded in for adjustment. As Hearing Loss progresses, new adjustments compensate for it.

The Processing power now in a Hearing Aid is just amazing. It's reaching the 'Bionic Ear' stage, IMO. The range from around 2,000 or 3,000 khz is what's called 'Sibilance'. It provides 'understanding' that distinguishes Syllables.

So, Money and a bit of Self Image notwithstanding, those of us being fitted with them some day - as this aging p/t Rocker likely will have to be - have nothing to dread.

Hi Artfriend,
That is kind of a bummer. My hearing is fine, but I got glaucoma at 30. I'm blind in that eye now at 33. I'll tell ya one thing though, that stuff they say about the other senses compensating for a lost or injured sense...so true!

Hey, you can always turn off your aid and selectively hear what you want ....just kidding.

A friend of mine has those! I didn't even know she had hearing aids and she showed them to me. (I think she was really excited about them to be honest)

They are really kind of neat and some seriously cool technology. She carries a little controller in her purse and its all remotely done.

Very stealthy.

Thanks for starting this thread, ArtFriend. I am feeling much more optimistic about a hearing assessment and the various treatment options available.

Great! I am glad that my whining resulted in something positive.
