It depends. I have a teetotal friend (he's not an ex alcoholic, he had some kidney issue meaning he can't drink) who will often have a non alcoholic beer with lunch because he just likes the taste. But me, to be honest, I never really liked the taste of beer that much.

I just liked getting drunk.

So for me, having a non alcoholic beer would just make me crave alcohol. But if it doesn't, and you're drinking it for flavor, then I can't see the harm.

But personally, it would have me buying a 12 pack of budweiser faster than you could say "tastes just like the real thing!".

Ok, changel, got a question for you:
I used to smoke crack and it took me to some pretty dark places. But I recently found non crack crack and thought about smokin it.
What would be your thoughts on it??? Good way to relax after a stressful day or would I be playin with fire?

I had some twice this summer on hot days. I prefer the taste of beer over water. It is the only carbonated beverage I will drink. Would be nice if they sold singles but I suppose that would not be very profitable.

Ditto. Two of them and my head is pounding. I'm a ginger ale and cranberry man now. So yummy!

I wonder why that is? It is weird isn't it? In any case, there are many reasons I don't want to drink them.

Probably depends on the individual as to whether it would trigger craving the real thing. I personally think it taste like ummm nothing, and it's over priced. Kind of pointless and probably not worth the risk.

I think they might be useful in some social situations.

I think drinking non-alcoholic drinks would be like having sex but being denied an orgasm.... an exercise in frustration.

do you mean fitting in wise Janie?

I'd be really careful of that, guys.

If you're in a situation where you have to look like your drinking to fit in, it may not be the best situation for you to be in, at least not in early recovery?

I once tried to have non-alcoholic beers at a party. it was horrible, actually... I don't mean the taste. I mean the experience. It looked, smelled, and tasted like beer. I drank some, and it was very apparent that it left me cold, with no buzz... my brain was definitely expecting that warmth, and that buzz. It was ridiculous. I think it might have led me to drinking the real thing....

Of course, everyone is different. I think that if you have a history of using a certain drink to get drunk, then it could be a very dangerous thing to try to drink it for other reasons... it might just be too triggering. It was for me, anyway.

So now I'm trying to find new drinks that I can relax with, and that I don't have a history with.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I actually did notice a mild headache the next day, not bad, but a nagging persistent throb that I couldn't blame on anything else. Also, AV was telling me to get some more of the non alch beers and make it a habit. Stupid AV for thinking it was alcohol, but evil Av for trying to convince me to get more.

While no damage was done this time, I will stay away from the non-alch beers in the future. Sticking to the water from here.

It's nearly 3 weeks now, and I just can't drink enough water. I have about 5-6 litres a day currently and I still feel a bit dehydrated. When I was drinking, I would typically only have a glass or two each day.

I don't know what non crack crack is, but I see your point. I would tell you to stay away from it. Good analargy. Thanks.
