Man, sometimes I just wish I was "normal"

Not normal regarding drinking, but thinking. I just read an article in the SR articles section, titled "Addicted to Drama". It talks about how certain substances and activities stimulate the pleasure center of the brain, and how more of that substance is needed over time to achieve the same or enhanced effect. This I already knew. The article also talks about how drama itself can create the same effect. So I suppose its safe to say that one can create drama to feel the "rush" in the pleasure center of the brain. Makes sense to me; I always claim to hate drama, but I was/am doing a spectacular job of creating it all by myself. I can take the littlest thing and blow it up into a life or death situation. I just LOOOOOVE to be the center of my universe. It's getting annoying, I really need to chill the ******************************** out.

GRRR, what I wouldn't give to feel laid back 24/7/365. Stinkin' thinkin', drama, feeling like a Jill-in-the-box.......I have alot to learn. Thanks for listening!

I once had someone tell me I thought too much. It actually annoyed me a little to hear it. Now I find some wisdom in that statement.

Whenever i get that feeling...that I am important...I reread

Detriorata

Go placidly amid the noise and waste,
And remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
Avoid quiet and passive persons, unless you are in need of sleep.
Rotate your tires.
Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself,
And heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys.
Know what to kiss, and when.
Consider that two wrongs never make a right, but that three do.
Wherever possible, put people on hold.
Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment,
and despite the changing fortunes of time,
There is always a big future in computer maintenance.

You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.

Remember The Pueblo.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle, and mutilate.
Know yourself.
If you need help, call the FBI.
Exercise caution in your daily affairs,
Especially with those persons closest to you -
That lemon on your left, for instance.
Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls
Would scarcely get your feet wet.
Fall not in love therefore. It will stick to your face.
Gracefully surrender the things of youth: birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan.
And let not the sands of time get in your lunch.
Hire people with hooks.
For a good time, call 606-4311. Ask for Ken.
Take heart in the bedeepening gloom
That your dog is finally getting enough cheese.
And reflect that whatever fortune may be your lot,
It could only be worse in Milwaukee.

You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.

Therefore, make peace with your god,
Whatever you perceive him to be - hairy thunderer, or cosmic muffin.
With all its hopes, dreams, promises, and urban renewal,
The world continues to deteriorate.
Give up!

You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.

You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.

I think you are doing great making it to 5 months BZ. There was a time I took a look at my past behavior and decided that I was most of the problem. A real drama queen would never fess up to her part. You see what you are doing. you see it is not working and you fix it. You can do that now that you are sober and back in control.

I read once that alcoholics hear things differently.

Example: a well meaning friend or relative says "you drink too much"

This is patently obvious to everyone one except the alcoholic

What the alcoholic hears is along the lines of "you're a godamn loser and no one likes you, why don't you do something productive with your life and quit killing yourself to live, stop mooching off your spouse and grow up"

Having heard that and not what was actually said, the alcoholic does what any sane and rational person would do and cuts that person out of their life.

Then they go and do what any sane and rational alcoholic would do to get over such a vicious ear bashing... They get drunk.

OMG Traech, I actually have this taped on my fridge, like for a year, from my mom...and have never actually read it. ::sigh:: See what I mean?

Thank you, gonna read it everyday, now

There's nothing better than laughing at your own insignificance. When you can accept that you make no difference, you can actually start making a difference. The former being your state, the latter being your actions.

"heed well their advice, even though they may be turkeys"

And just maybe after heeding their advice, you might perceive them as eagles.

Maybe
