will these cravings and headaches stop soon?

Hi. I quit with no relapses 6 weeks ago with surprisingly few cravings but just a few mild ones at around 7pm every night. I went cold turkey having used a certain book by A. Carr and am very pleased with my progress. I've been thinking more clearly and unleashed my creative talents on some big projects. My self confidence has improved, I feel healthier and things are looking great, but I seem to be getting stronger cravings. Also, I've been getting headaches even though I'm keeping hydrated. I thought after abstaining for this long the cravings would have stopped by now and I can't understand why I'm headachy - even as a drinker I had very few headaches. Anyone any ideas?

Welcome to SR and congratulations on 6 weeks!

I didn't get headaches, so I can't help you there. If they persist or get worse you may want to see a doctor.

may have to do with the change in sugar levels in your system? just a guess.

Hi Freeby and welcome to SR. I had headaches for the first couple of weeks after stopping but if you are worried get yourself checked by your doctor.

I am at six weeks too. Had some severe headaches - it has to be a symptom of withdrawal, dehydration (I think even if you have a good water intake now, the brain still doesn't receive it's share of hydrodration immediately) and sugar imbalances. A pint of water can help immediately, as can ibuprofen / paracetamol. Time is key.

Could be stress? I know my stress level is much higher since I quit but I'm learning acceptance and that helps. Stress was the main reason I drank. Caffeine and sugar are also culprits.

Hi Freeby

while physical cravings do diminish or even disappear, I found the mental cravings lasted much longer....

That's where support comes in, so I'm glad you found us

If you're concerned about your headaches, I'd see a Dr
