I've been scared all my life and alcohol numbs my fear. I even hid in rehabs but never conquered my fear because I would trot out the same old defences and go to battle. Then succumb to booze, dope again and think I must get sober! It hasn't worked in the past and rehabs are sick of me. I don't know how to stop being scared or more brave than scared anymore. Well, brave is committing to a weeks sobriety from tomorrow but my fear butts in and I cave so good luck with that. It's about turning fear into a stone/s and hate into love.To allow an ending. Hello.

Welcome Fridgey. Coming here to SR was a good step - sharing your fears is a great way to start overcoming them. Have you ever been to meetings before?

Hi fridgey and welcome. I understand the fear thing, but just go one day at a time and it is more manageable. You don't have to commit to a week's sobriety, just commit for today.
