P.a.w.s.

If any of you with a good amount of sobriety would like to share your experience with post acute withdrawal, I would be grateful for that information. Many thanks.

I had to Google P.A.W.S after 30 days of sobriety because I thought I had lost my mind. The more you know the less scarey it is. And it is best to explain it to the ones closest to you so they understand the chemical changes occurring in your body.

the more sober I became, the more aware I became, so things got different.

couldn't recall words, then I could, couldn't do simple arithmetic in my head, then I could, saw things I had never noticed before as I was never really looking (real things I hadn't seen, not hallucinations)....

things just get different. I stuck around sober people so I could discuss my changes only to find out it was all part of recovery.

my hand reflexes are awesome today
I can do arithmetic in my head quickly and I can recall most things
sometimes I have a hard time remembering things, but is it paws or is it my age?

keep moving forward. we all recovery differently.

and sleep patterns can and do improve!

Quite a few at the moment... Waking up feeling pants in the morning which lasts for a few hours, headaches which come & go, happy to say they have gone at the moment, twitches of legs & arms mainly in bed, palpitations & slight panic attacks... I hope I'm over the worst of them at the moment but I don't mind them as they are a stark reminder that I would have to go through it all again if I picked up the poison!!

not sure if you've seen this link but it's probably the best I've seen:

PAWS | Digital Dharma

my personal experience was a few days here and there of confusion, crazy mood swings, and not exactly risky behaviour but out of character behaviour..that kind of thing.

Like I said it was a few day here and there...hasn't happened at all since i hit about 6 months?

Hello mesmith2!
If you want, check out my last 4 or 5 threads, they are all about the paws symptoms i experienced.
As ChloeRose63 said, "The more you know the less scarey it is." Totally true, at least you know what is happening and are prepared, not just reacting.
Good luck!
