Another Reminder in black and white.
Another Reminder in black and white.
Have been sober for 17 months now, and have been working on getting my life back on track.
My life is better in Sooo many ways, and by far, finances are better now that I am not using most of our money supporting my addiction.
I had gotten our finances into quite a mess, and our credit suffered. We have been renters for years, but are now financially able to afford a home. One of the steps towards buying a home was to take a first time home buyers class, and as a service they pull your credit and advise you on how you will be received by lenders.
Looking at our report, it has definitely improved, but still could be better...some late payments still showing up.
The last late payment reported was May 2013....I got sober April 30, 2013!!!!! It was a startling reminder how I let booze trash my life, and how giving it up was a crucial first step in gaining my life back!
Now there is light at the end of the tunnel because the banks look at activity from the last 2 years, so in May, our report will be much better as all those late payments will no longer factor in:-)
Looking forward to becoming a home owner, and I never would be in the cusp if that if I wasn't sober! So grateful for SR and my sober life!

Ooohhh congrats!!! That is SO awesome. I bet you're incredibly proud! Well-earned.
I absolutely needed to read this tonight. Thank you so much for sharing, for bringing a ray of hope and reassurance that things DO get better (particularly financially, the aspect with which I struggle the most).
