Do you think alcohol should be criminalized?
I know they tried to do it during Prohibition and it failed miserably.
But, for sake of discussion, if could work somehow, would you want a law enacted that would make it illegal to buy booze?

I have my thoughts on the answer to that question, but it might quickly turn into a slug-fest if I posted them.
My general answer is that many of us are stuck doing things we really don't want to be doing. A lot of that comes from societal "norms"...the accumulation of stuff seems to be the main goal of the game. And that stuff better be the newest and greatest stuff; it's certainly worth camping out in front of WalMart for a day or two.
What actually makes us happy, and what society (run by the marketeers) tries to convince us of, are two very different things.

Adding to the previous message: I no longer have a car. Therefore I no longer have to commute back and forth to a job I don't like, sitting in traffic and constantly cursing at other drivers for being such morons. I can now walk or ride a bike to work. I still don't necessarily like my job, but I got rid of a huge source of stress by getting out of the damned car.

Social mores would have to change in regards to the usefulness of altering one's consciousness. 150 years ago drinking after 16 hrs. of hard physical labor was the norm for many and not going to work the next day was never a question. No problem. Moonshiners will shoot cops as will pot growers-so much for the Law-craving will win every time (I mean craving in more of a Buddhist sense).

Right on JD! This is more of a chicken/egg question--with the exception that wanting begets having (egg). Renounce and take up homelessness! Don't be such a needy little egg. An egg is a universe in and of itself. I'm just BSing... I don't have the balls either!

No to illegal alcohol. As a matter of fact, when I'm king of the world I'll legalize all drugs.
I never had a problem with other drugs. Tried everything except needles, enjoyed it, learned from it, put it all down and walked away.
Alcohol has always been my Achilles Heel. In hindsight, it was my problem from Drink 1. Yet, I know many people that are with alcohol as I was with all other drugs. Not a problem.
I can't take that away from them for my genetics.
