The battle starts again...

The hang over is going and I'm gearing up to give sobriety another go. I need to try harder - much harder. I can't say I gave it my best last time and it had the same predictable outcome; drunken insanity. I really really want to be sober and I'm beginning to see how hard this is going to be...

Anna 09-27-2014 02:19 PM

Yes, it IS hard and it takes your very best. But, you can do it. :)

Is there anything you can do differently this time to make it work.

Don't look at it as a 'battle'. See it as giving yourself the treat of living sober. :)

james186 09-27-2014 02:33 PM

Firstly I need to be fully commited, which I'm not sure I have been, or at least I haven't grasped the full weight of what I'm tryin to do. I think I just thought I'd be able to carry on my life and 'not drink'. It needs to be at the forefront of my mind all the time. I need to make the effort and stick to rules and goals I set myself, not just think about doing them tomorrow and put them off.

Congrats on deciding to take control and be happy! Don't beat urself up and get back on track....

MariahGayle 09-27-2014 02:42 PM

Glad your here James, I think we can take some of the battle out of it by taking it a day at at a time. Be kind to yourself:)

What did you try last time?

Stayingsober72 09-27-2014 03:36 PM

I'm with you James. Drinking does not work for me in my life whatsoever. I wish you the best in your recovery and I hope to see you around here.

Nothing really to be honest. It was a half assed attempt and I'm disappointed with myself. I even went in a pub - stupid. So three bottles of vodka and god knows how many Guinness later, at the end of the week we are here again.

Good luck with it mate.

Ever watched a show like "Biggest Loser"

Many people think there is a magic bullet for all types of problems. Fad diets, fad exercise machines are typical magic bullet solutions for weight loss.

Going from 180 kilograms to 90 kilograms takes time.

Ten % inspiration 90% perspiration is the reality.

And getting sober is the same equation.

Hard thinking alone won't conquer hard drinking.

A good hard think is of course required, but actions are necessary beyond that.

I think this realisation is already happening for you.

Think about how ecstatic the BL contestants are at the end of the show.

That can be you in terms of putting in the work to get sober.

james186 09-27-2014 04:03 PM

Wise words Hawks, thanks.

And what are you planning to do this time?

Soberpotamus 09-27-2014 04:27 PM

Doesn't have to be a battle anymore. For me, the battle was while I was still drinking. Getting sober isn't easy but it gets easier over time. I do not feel I'm in a battle at all anymore.

The turning point is at the point you decide to get sober, and stay sober. And for me, that meant no matter what happens, I do not drink. I have to remove that option. Can no longer play that card.

Firstly I'm going to get some medical advice about my mood. I seem to have developed some degree of depression/negative thinking that's making it hard for me to give a crap at the moment, so that obviously needs sorting. That is Monday's task.

No more trips to the pub should go without saying.

Monday is quite a long way off. I found that no matter how many times I promised to quit tomorrow, tomorrow never came. You need to take concrete actions and you need to take then now, or you will be forever stuck in this cycle ,James.

Last time you were here you said you found an AA meeting within walking distance of home....why not take a walk
