Biopsy on Monday
Hello to all. I just joined this forum. As you can see from my profile I am quite ill and nervous about having 3 biopsies on Monday morning. Dr's told me I am quite bad off and can't help but to wonder why I must go? My eyes are so yellow people just look at me awkward in public and Im embarrassed! Im anxious for my results and hope I am not living on borrowed time...? Has anyone had a biopsy? Thank you.
ZuZu, I'm glad you posted. Go ahead, have the biopsies so you know exactly what you're dealing with. the liver is somewhat resilient and it's possible if you follow your doctors advice you can heal. In any case, I'm glad you found SR!

Zuzu,
Yes, I've had a liver biopsy, but it was about 12 years ago. I remember it being more scary than painful, although I do remember being a bit sore in my ribs after - not worse than a sport injury, pulled muscle type pain, & you can deal with that.
Yes, the liver is powerfully resilient & regenerative, but can only recover if you absolutely do not feed it poison (alcohol). No messing around; you do not have the luxury of relapse or wondering.
Regardless, you are embarking on a medical journey which will be frightening and will consume your focus. You need to muster up every supportive resource both within yourself and outside yourself - recovery & support as 24/7 as you can make it. Sleep, eat, and care for yourself.
If you can take someone with you to hold your hand or even to wait with you, it will help with the anxiety. I took a friend & leaned hard on her support that day...

Hi Zuzu, I wanted to wish you luck for Monday. My liver failed almost completely back in May, but I'm mending well and almost 5 months Sober. You can do this, but it took me alot of hard work, and faith. Some days I am still tired. My doctor and I have elected to have a liver biopsy in December to check for any scarring on my liver. I wish you well.
