Happy thought: one of the best benefits that I have enjoyed from getting sober is having coherent conversations with my teenage sons when they come home from an evening out. My sixteen year old son just got home from his high school's football game and was telling my husband and I about the fun he had with his friends. While tired, I fully enjoyed the conversation, and I am ready to fall asleep peacefully, knowing everyone is home safe. In my drinking days, I would have already passed out in bed and would have let my husband wait up for the kids. Or I might have been up, but I would have been very buzzed, worrying that if the kids ended up needing a ride, I would not have been sober enough to pick them up.
