Day 1

I have been struggling with alcohol abuse for the past year and a few months. Admittedly, there have been other periods of my life where I have struggled as well. Last night, I threw away my two full bottles of wine, all of my wine glasses and bar accessories, and I am ready to do this. Today is my day 1 of sobriety. I am looking forward to meeting you all.

Kirsten.

Hello welcome to sober recovery

Kirsten,

Welcome to SR and on your first step - Just don't drink!!
Yesterday was my first sober birthday ( belly button/not recovery sobriety date) in many, many years.

It can be done, I assure you! Make a strong plan, seek the help you need face to face and/or SR a combo plan - (me) - and get after it!

Glad you are here!!!

Thank you all! I have already sent an email to my best friend who will support me in this decision, and will be journaling along with using sober recovery for support and resources. I am looking forward to improved physical, emotional and mental health in the weeks to come. I know I am going to struggle from time to time, but I'm ready to do this.

Hey Kirsten...welcome to the forum. You do sound like you have a plan for sobriety and that is great! I am a newbie too... learning as I go. Best of luck!

kirstensmith 09-22-2014 06:45 AM

Thanks Sadie. Appreciate your support. i like your signature!

I have many many reasons NOT to drink. While my friends would say that i am not an alcoholic, it really doesn't matter. Abusing alcohol and poisoning my health are reasons enough. Alcoholism has killed people in my extended family, so all the more reason to quit. I just need to keep reminding myself of my reasons why I am quitting, and each day will get a little bit easier.

Hi Kirsten,

Well done on making the decision! I'm on day two (again) now and hoping this will be the last time. We can both do this!

Right here with ya!

Here with ya! Day 1. I will never drink again and I will never change my mind!

Welcome Kristen. I'm a newbie too and SR has been a great support for me so far. We're all friends here. :-)
Congratulations on your decision and conviction!

I feel the same way! None of my friends would say I am an alcoholic either... but you are right, all that matters is how YOU feel and think! Alcoholism has destroyed many in my immediate and extended family as well. BTW, my extended family are all in Minnesota!

Hi Kirsten, great that you have made the decision and that you have support from your friend. I'm on day 3 and everyone here has been really supportive :)

Hi kirsten! Glad you have found us and are with us. You'll find a ton of support and some really wonderful people here.

I am on Day 8 and can say without question that if it wasn't for SR, I would have never made it this far.

Have a look around, post often, read others' posts, add your comments and stay close. We all help each other here.

Hugs to you! :ring

Twin Cities here as well- Welcome, Kirsten!

kirstensmith 09-22-2014 11:36 AM

It looks like I am already going to be tested next week! I briefly lived in North Carolina for a couple of years, and one of my friends from NC is going to be in town next week. Of course, she wants to meet for drinks. I plan on drinking diet pop, water or a club soda, and telling her I prefer not to drink and drive (which is the truth). Hopefully, she will be understanding.
