Horrible things but happy to have survived
Trying to master alcoholism is kind of like getting in the ring with Tyson or Ali. All three will beat the living sh*t out of you. You CAN'T win! So what should you do?
Do what the kind folks in AA say to do. Surrender. Put your hands up and say "You win". Then get out of the ring, put down the glass, walk away.

With regard to Torn's response to Neverthought's referring to getting "too much rehabilitation", Reminds me of a friend (now deceased) who once said that, after starting with AA, he "had more serenity than he could handle". Like a true addict he found himself overdosing on serenity. On a slippery slope headed towards sobriety!
