Physical malady when first quitting

Has anyone experienced excessive (sorry) diarrhea when first getting sober? I'm on day 6 and I feel like I keep having to run to the bathroom. Sorry for content, but I have to ask!

Your body is going through physical changes...things will settle down. Try otc loperimide. It should take care of it.

if it is still persisting go to chemist for anti diarhea medicine and electrolyte rehydration powder scahets to replenish and balance natural minerals and salts

book an apt with gp/doc just to be on safe side tho diarehea causes severe dehydration sweating etc drink plenty of water but make sure u see a doc just to rule out anything else

good luck and nice to meet you

You may need to go to the dr but for this minute go to the store and get 5 or 6 bottles of Pedialyte. Not gatorade, Pedialyte. Store brand is fine. Try to drink an entire bottle every day for at least a week maybe longer. If it's too tart, mix it with ginger ale or fruit juice or whatever you like.

Is this Day 6 after a binge or even just a bad drinking spell by any chance?

I second pedialyte or Moms to Moms which is safeway brand (if in US).

Bland diet- bland chicken white rice potatoes well steamed veggies if you are feeling daring. Stay away from raw foods, fatty foods, sugar foods, and fried foods.

Get some immodium.

You might just have a stomach bug, but you could be dealing with stress as well without the numbing effect of alcohol. It will pass. But if it persists for another week, or if you feel yourself majorly weak go see a Dr. But probably just a bug or stress.

Get outside for a walk and fresh air. Do some breathing exercises or yoga.

I'm on day 9 and having some of the same "fun". It's getting better but I can't wait for it to be done.

Thanks everyone. I'm under stress, too, BC my husband might leave me BC of prior drinking. Will get pedialyte tomorrow and see doc if it continues.

I did have the same issue week one, but it resolved itself after a week. If it keeps up for you, check with your doc. Congrats on your decision to get sober!

I have had the same issue, but usually only the first four days or so after not drinking. I agree with everyone else, could be from withdraw, could be more if it persists. If it lasts longer than a week, probably should see the Dr.
