Monday's Meeting
Monday's Meeting
Hi SR,
I hope everyone is doing very well this evening!
Well.. so after last Thursday's meeting I wasn't sure if I would go to tonight's meeting. I did though and came prepared with advice that some of you had given me.
So this was a beginner's meeting and it went well. Only one of the men who approached me last week came up today and all he said was "I am glad you made it today". I think that maybe he was unsure because our last meeting was, i'm sure somewhat obviously, imposing.
Anyway, after the meeting I was approached by someone else and who, when finding out I was day 45, said "wow, you should have had a sponsor the first week!". Then gave me a phone number list and said call someone everyday (seriously.. everyday). I'm thinking jeez... here we go. But I calmly told him that I am going to take my time and get to know everyone and then chose my sponsor myself (not sure if i'm going that route though because I want a supportive friend, but not a conditional friend). He then said "ohh your a baby-stepper" and I responded kindly "haha whatever you want to call it". But while talking with him another guy came over, started listening and chimed in a little. It sounded like he totally understood where I was coming from. We talked for a bit and it was nice. So, i'm an not going into my head with anything but if we get to know each other more I could see that I would feel comfortable with him as part of my support structure.
All in all, this was a much better experience. My main goal is to fortify my support structure in a way compatible with who I am. As of tonight, it looks like I will be free to come and participate without feeling like a newbie or pressured.
Much love all and Thanks Everyone in the "1 Question about Sobriety, AA, Sponsors and the Steps" thread!
