Day 20!
Well it’s day numero 2-0 which feels pretty awesome. I have successfully made it through 3 weekends sober!
This is after a VERY long time of relapsing and being in and out of AA, constantly “coming back”.
What has been working for me so far:
- Checking in on SR regularly.
- Hitting at least one meeting EVERY SINGLE DAY. (I also work fulltime, and have a needy puppy at home, so this feels overwhelming at times).
- Going through the Big Book with my sponsor, meeting weekly, talking daily.
- Reaching out to other women in the program and making new, sober, healthy friends. (This is very uncomfortable for me, but helps immensely with the loneliness.)
- Not hanging out with ANY of my old friends, avoiding ANY situation where there is alcohol present. (I’ve had to give up tickets to hockey games, invites to outings, plans with friends, etc.)
Basically, I’ve been treating myself as if I’m in rehab, but I'm not. I do nothing but go to work, occasionally hit the gym, but ALWAYS putting recovery first, before everything else. Before fun, before fitness, before social situations or events I want to attend, before EVERYTHING. Right now life is not about balance, it’s not about having fun. Right now is about getting solid sobriety down and going through the 12 steps, so I don’t DIE of this thing. Balance and fun will come in time, once my sobriety and recovery are in place.
Anyways, hope everyone is having a great sober day lol…. Just thought I’d share what has been working for me. :P

Excellent news Myrryah! You are doing fantastic, sound like you have a great plan. Your post is an inspiration to anyone looking for a blueprint of how to get a solid foundation in sobriety.
Brilliant post and very inspiring. I need to put recovery first sometimes rather than thinking I am missing my friends = missing out. To be honest the only 'friends' I have left would not support me anyway.
Congrats to you on 20 and sounds like you have a great programme building.
