I started sauce way too late. Oh - garlic - not home grown.

Kevin Bacon - local boy done good.

Well, I went to a moving/estate sale and bought a dishwasher. The woman was redoing her kitchen, bought the dishwasher and when it came to install she didn't want to pay to upgrade the electric in her kitchen. So she put it in her garage. It's Not in a box but all the tags and manuals etc. I got a good price.

Sitting here trying to relax. Kids are watching despicable me. It is pretty funny. Trashing the living room. Again.

I think there's a new Dr. Who on tonight. I will probably watch that. Then bed. New Cooking Light magazine came too. Martha Stewart was ok. Talk to you all later.

Now, every time nonsensical recommends bacon for cravings... I'm done.

Who took my bread crumbs? I got to use my food processor this year, and I found a brand new pack of colorful measuring cups someone put in the pantry. Never knew they were there. Bread crumbs are 'cooking'. Soon, maybe before 10pm dinner will be ready. UNfortunately I'm using the long egg plant instead of the football shaped. It grows a lot better here. Won't be a traditional looking eggplant parm.

Surge Protection Against Raw Bacon

Ruby2 ~

Great find on the Dishwasher! Consider plugging it into a ~$15- Surge Protector from some Store like 'Home Despot'.

Turns out that everything from Fridges to Stoves have serious Digital Electronics in them these days. We lost a Fridge up here in the Rockies due to, I suspect, a Lightning Strike that affected only that ~6 year old Appliance.

Our Ranchette Gas [Propane] Cooktop has a serious Digital Board in it to sense Flame, and relight it if/when it blows out on 'Simmer'. Same with Fridge Temp Controllers and Defrost Controllers. Decidedly Digital...

Free advice is worth every Penny, eh?

Cool lamp! Was thinking it would look cool with a silk shade with red small tassels but couldn't find one with small tassels. How about this?

Thanks MM. Nice range top. Looks like it has a lot of room to maneuver pots. My biggest peeve with my new stove is that I have to shuffle pots if I'm cooking more than one thing. I miss my old behemoth. 1950s mammoth white stove with chrome handles. Unfortunately I kept calling the fire department when the pilots went out and the carbon monoxide detector went off. Cool is only cool if it isn't going to kill you. But it had room. And a griddle in the middle.

I went to an estate sale in addition to the moving sale. There were some cool things including a 1914 Studebaker in the garage. Apparently it had been mechanically restored but needed a new paint job. I keep seeing estate sales with these mammoth old cars in garages. Who knew? I bought some frames and some fabric remnants.

So now I'm hanging out and settling down for bed. In an hour or so.

Cool lamps guys!

Home again home again jiggity jig. I got back to Chicago and it's cold as frig!

Long day today, with an especially quick layover in Houston. Got back to my old apartment and will be here in Chicago for 2 weeks to close things out. Fridge is empty, cupboards are bare! Houseplants are surprisingly still alive thanks to the maid and houseguests who have been staying here from time to time over past 3 months. Ate like crap today of course, airplane and airport fare throughout. Gag. Dinner for me is a granola bar and a bottle of water, as there's no food here of course. Too late to bother ordering out, too tired. Rats. Thank goodness for a "Lazy Sunday" tomorrow: I'll hit the grocery store first thing and make myself a big breakfast and then veg watching football all day. Hoping to spend the day getting reacquainted with various foods I've been missing. I'm not as big of a bacon fanatic as you nuts, but you bet I'm grabbing some hickory smoked slabs at the crack of dawn tomorrow to go with a healthy fruit smoothie. Glad the weekenders thread is here to help me cope with the travels. Thanks guys!

Charlee - I never went to a high school reunion.

I don't feel like I've missed a passage in life.

Just me, though. Not a fan of high school. Wait. Not a fan of parties for any reason. YMMV

Olive, your lamp is probably bronze and you probably got a good deal on it. Check for marks on the base and google them. Don't polish it.

BigS, I hope you got my earlier post to bring warm coat. It's cold!

My mom just called me and my dad's defibrillator went off when he was driving my niece home from watching Dr. Who at my parents. They were two houses from my brothers house so my niece ran to get my brother and they are at the ER now. No news from my brother. My mom doesn't like driving at night. My husband is in bed sleeping so I can't leave kids to go to the hospital or to see my dad. Or to sit with my mother.

I need some sleep. And to ponder.

Thanks everyone. My mom called again and she is getting a ride to the hospital. She talked to my dad and he sounds ok but they will obviously check him out and probably keep him overnight. My brother said dad is "lamenting the absence of his iPad." He must be bored. You always know these calls, and these days, will come. You have to mentally prepare. I have to make any amends now. These scares come at least once a year and every time he bounces out of it. So I keep pretending that it will all be better. But one day it won't be. I'm guessing that he should not be driving. I'm actually more concerned at the moment for my 14 year old niece. Super scary for a kid.

I will keep you posted. I've learned a lot from my dad.
