Hi all
Hi all,
I'm new here, just signed in a couple of days ago. Been in the chat room twice, someone suggested me to post on the forum.
Well, i'm a recovering addict for 8 years (and 3 months) now (since 2006), relapsed for 6 months in those 8 years (in 2012). My addiction was/is heroin/ crack cocaine and methadone. I started it from a very young age and have done it for 11 years.
As I went through the forum topics I noticed many to be Alcoholics. I can't really relate to that, one thing we have in common is that we are addicted to substances i guess.
The reason that i signed in is to seek fellowship, someone who can relate and share experiences. Although it has been many years that I left that life behind, it scarred me for life. So, every now and then i relive everything that happened in the past, start watching addict and drug documentaries and start dreaming about it. I'm in that period now and it frightens me.
Thanks for reading,
Acacia

Hey Acacia ,
welcome to SR
Be careful where your mind wanders, fantasising about our D.O.C doesn't sound like a wise strategy to me … I prefer to be occupied with more healthy and "real" things .
Bestwishes, m

Welcome, Acacia.
There is a forum section (with sub groupings) about drug addiction:
Drug Addiction
I agree with Mecanix, find other things to do and think about when those thoughts about your DOC pop up. Don't sit and spin on it!!

I can relate. I abused alcohol for many years and went through a gauntlet of withdrawal symptoms, soaring blood pressure, seeing things, hearing things, and so on.
Still today, after all that, when I am out and see someone enjoying a cold mug of beermy brain remembers how good that tasted. You forget the bad, how you couldn't stop with one, and Blackout Island would be on the horizon.
Great to have you here.
