Drinking Everyday
Drinking Everyday
The past few days of sobriety have been no picnic.
I have a banging headache that painkillers and water wont shift, I have really intense dreams. I feel tired almost all day.
My cravings are getting stronger but do last much shorter. Nearly 1 week sober.
I have thought (of course), of drinking. For a some strange reason I can drink a bottle of vodka and not get very drunk, but I do get sick, especially the next day. White Wine (Sparkling), gets me tipsy but I usually end up with roomspin and end up throwing up again.
Beer is great cold, but after 10 or more I am usually having trouble with my bowels and again end up throwing up.
I am not going to lie to you, all of the above as disgusting as it sound is my normal life before sobriety.
My main problem is I cannot afford it anymore. I am not telling anyone here something they dont already know, booze is expensive !!!
When you have an Alcohol problem, like me you would sell your kids toys to buy a bootle of beer. Pawn rings for next to nothing for a glass of brandy.
I have been drinking almost every day since I was 18 years old and I am 39 years old now.
Thats 21 years of drinking hard and I do mean hard.
Thats 7665 nights of drinking. Lets say I spend £10 ($US 16) a night.
I would have £76,000 ($US 122,000) better off.
I cannot continue drinking everyday and thats what it all comes down to.
While being sober is a struggle, at least I am not spending that kind of money and throwing most of it back up, while wrestling with guilt the next day, telling myself this is it, the last time.
The next time I go to pour myself a drink, I will be reminding myself that drinking everynight and day really sucks big time and its sold expensive.

Hey aloneatlast,
Thank you for reminding me just how expensive alcohol is! I like numbers too so I also added up the amount that I spent. It sure it easy to get a number when you drank every night. My total is about $35,000 over eight years. Yikes! That would have purchased that VW Golf I've been wanting, with all the options. Alcohol costs us a lot more than money, sure, but dang, it's one more tool to stay sober here when I think of all the darn money down the drain.

Hang in there aloneatlast. It definitely gets easier with time. You can do it! Instead of saying "the next time i pour my next drink", you might want to rephrase "I'll never pour another drink again." Don't leave any opportunities for your av to take control.
Best wishes

Stick in there! Im 36 and have also drank since I was a kid. Im also alone and really find it easier than having triggers or people chiming in who dont know the srruggle. Use this forum, stories and this support we have for our sobriety to drive you on. You deserve this!!
