I like this quote......

"I wanted to be present in my own life"

Randomly stumbled upon this quote the other day, i like it

I think it summarizes the whole thing perfectly, when we are under the influence we are still "there" physically, but we are not "there" mentally....... if that makes sense.

Feels good to be "present" myself :)

I like it also. Although to be honest a part of me will miss the occasional escape...

I can do all things through he who strengthens me

I also like the quote. I have to find a new way to escape sometimes. One that isn't going to kill off my liver.

We somehow need to make an escape that doesnt involve alcohol? Maybe instead of dealing with a troubling issue watch a movie you have wanted to see (use the money you would spend on alcohol to go out and get that movie if you have trouble spending money). And once you have relaxed then you still have a clear head to deal with it!

Learning Meditation can be a far better hit, than the bottle and you can do it anywhere and still drive home after.

Part of me had to learn how to be comfortable and content with the present!!

When I drank, I drank to escape the present, my thoughts, feelings, emotions, I liked the quick fix of numbing it all away!!

Sobriety came with the challenge of living life in the here and now, and it was a scary thing to face up to, myself alone with my own thoughts, that sounded very stressful indeed!!

But in hindsight, it's a lesson in life I fully recommend!! :)

Drinking gave this introverted loner mind a rest from always thinking, dwelling and analyzing. Drinking socially was a distraction from the inner peace of nothingness. I miss that escape and have yet to discover another way to numb out.

Show up for life each day.

Love the quote, very true. I look back at the 20 years I was active and it's like a movie. I was a spectator of my own life in a way.

You know, I think I had become so used to being drunk, I didn't feel "drunk". It was just an altered normal, not a good time anymore. At least that's what I think was happening......(still working through it)

Alynn 09-08-2014 05:25 PM

Your right! I quit finding that happy place... it felt just like you said "altered normal" I would enjoy the relaxed feelin after a couple fo drinks but would drink more to hold onto it... really just fooling myslelf. I feel so dum looking back on all that. Hope I'm laearning and growing... I feel like I am maybe... winding down day 8 and still have no intention at drinking.
