Family members in recovery aswell..

My sister is an alcoholic and has just entered recovery thank god, just wondering how many other people have family members in recovery?

I'm the only one on both sides of my family, as far as I know. Unless already dead relatives had problems in the past & no one ever mentioned it.

I'm glad your sister is getting the help she needs Lion - that's great news.

besides my grandfathers brothers who I never see, I'm the only one who has an issue... Feels horrible being "that one" oh well it is what it is...

Glad your sis is getting help!

All 6 of my siblings have substance abuse problems. One has been sober for a long time, one I am not sure about, one is off street drugs but seems to abuse her prescription meds and often seems out of it(showed up at a family funeral in her pajamas etc) one is on and off sober and the other two refuse to acknowledge they have a problem. And then of course, there is me.

Yes, one brother 3yrs. sober in AA/NA, another who is almost homeless, drunk a lot and a sister who is normal.

I have a younger brother (only sibling) who has been battling a crippling opiate addiction for about 15 years. It's sad. He's only 31. This has stolen half of his life. :(
my poor parents. The 2 kids they had both struggling with this crap!

Well, let's see...my mother's brother literally drank himself to death, at least one cousin has major issues, my BIL barely lived through a heroin habit, my dad just drank up a case of afib while on vacation, and then there's me.

My husband and I. My paternal grandfather quit drinking over twenty years ago. He was a heavy drinker but I don't know if he is an alcoholic.

My grandfather, grandmother, mother(and her husband) passed away from alcoholism/alcohol related diseases. My sister just got out of her 3rd time in rehab; other 2 sisters deal with addiction as well. I didn't grow up with this family (I was adopted) ... But I understand(and believe in) now the theory that this is an inherited disease. Im so glad to hear of all of us who are getting the help we need!
