alcohol weaning?

Curious to know how many people successfully weaned off of alcohol? And if so, how much did you decrease by every day?

Hi timeforchange

I never had any luck tapering. It was asking me to control my intake of something I couldn;t control my intake of.

There are dangers too - unless you know what you're doing, or are under the supervision of a professional who does, it may not be any safer than cold turkey.

That's why we ask people not to ask for or share details of alcohol tapering plans here.

I am not looking for medical advice, I was just curious. I will delete this post once I figure out how to!

What you're asking is medical advice tho - a tapering schedule is a treatment plan.

As well as that, what may have worked for someone else may not work or even be suitable for you, as no two of us are the same

It's not about punishing you or anything it's about you finding the best and safest way to proceed.

Only admins and mods can delete.

If you feel strongly this should be deleted, just let me know here or by PM.

Tapering (unless you're in a detox facility) is pretty common here in the UK, BUT everyone is different - length/amount of alcohol drank, underlying health issues (eg does the patient have high blood pressure etc etc).

Impossible to give advice on this, even if we were allowed to.

Doctor's advice is the best bet here

Never worked for me

But I made sure about going to see a Dr before going cold turkey, and he said it would be fine based on blood tests etc!!

Everyone is different though!!

If you taper incorrectly, and then binge, you can end up creating more problems and danger to yourself.
Contact a detox facility, doctor, or addiction treatment facility. Be safe. If you're worried enough about needing to taper vs. quitting, you really need to be under a professional's assessment and care.

its hard because scientifically it makes sense to help with withdrawals.

its just, with as easy access as everyone has to it, and how socially acceptable it is and a part of so many peoples cultures, its damn near impossible

No, because you still want to drink. In the back of your mind you still want to keep drinking. You have to not want to drink.

tapering does not work for me. more accurately stated, I could never taper because I could never stop after 1/2 pint of vodka, no matter how much I wanted to. I could never stop with just one drink either.

I was never able to taper, I tried on many occasions. It is better to see your Dr. in my opinion.

I can't reduce the amount that I drink when I'm drinking. When I'm drinking I drink until I fall asleep somewhere. Drinking anything less than that is impossible for me.

I tried it. Bought a 12 pack and said "I can do this!" I drank the 12 pack then had my wife get me more in less than three hours. It really doesn't work for me.
