Post fifty millionth attempt

Hi everyone,

As you can see I am brand new here, I Live in the middle of England and I am fortunate enough to have a good GP.
My last attempt at sobriety lasted 6 months, I thought I had cracked it....pppfffttt.
I am waiting for detox again at the moment, I should get a home detox in about two weeks. I have detoxed cold turkey numerous times however, the more I slip the harder they seem to get with things like seizures and hallucinations.

Currently I drink a whopping 16 to 20 500ml cans of Bud a day just to feel normal. I honestly don't want people to think that I am proud that I can drink so much, I just want to be honest.

I used to be a functioning alcoholic and worked many years in the tourism industry. Now a days I can't even put on my socks and shoes without help.

I look forward to chatting on this site and hope and pray for a long happier recovery. I don't feel I can continue my miserable drinking for much longer as I wish the next two weeks away.
God bless everyone who is trying

Skytower, I know you have two weeks till medical detox, that is a long time 16-20 cans a day is a lot, can you start a home detox without jeopardizing yourself. What I mean without upping the amount, can you go from 20 to 18 to 16 to 14 and so forth cans a day?

Again, I am being careful here, I am not a doctor this isn't medical advice, but can you gradually decrease consumption so not to experience withdrawals till your detox?

Please friend, you can do this, do it safely, don't take any chances, but also take care of yourself and get medical help ASAP if you need it.

Hang in there bro, I am going to keep you in my thoughts, if you need someone to talk to private message me, stay safe!

Hello Skytower

This is a great site I have had withdrawal symptoms for the last 2 days which have been really unpleasant. To be fair it has scared me a bit but each time I read other peoples experiences with withdrawal I calm down.

The people here will give you the support you need to detox and stay off alcohol.

Hello and welcome.
My drinking gradually increased, too. Until I was an every day drinker.
You had some good sober time before, so you must have learned something from that. I know when I had periods of sobriety I learned a little bit. I learned I never have to have a day after with all the suffering, anxiety and remorse that goes along with it if I don't have that first drink.
I don't recommend going cold turkey. I know it's tempting, but it can be dangerous.
I hope you get the help you need and feel free to post here as often as you like.
Best to you.

Howdy new friend. So glad you've joined us. This the place to be if you want to be a non-drinker. Tons of support, encouragement and fun. You can share anything that you need to. Someone, mostly likely most of us, have been thru it, too.

Sure wish you didn't have to wait 2 weeks till detox. Your safety and health have to come first. Glad you are getting supervision. Addiction withdrawal is not a thing to mess around with. Wishing you well.

Hi and welcome skytower!

So glad you found us! You will find lots of support here.

Good luck with your detox. You are right...it gets worse with each relapse. But now you never have to feel that way again.. Glad you are getting medical help, as it can be a very scary and dangerous thing to detox on your own.

Best of luck and keep on posting!

Welcome to SR!

My thoughts are with you for your detox. You are wise to have talked to your doctor.

Looking forward to reading your posts.
