Huge decision all opinions welcome
I work in a bar, casino or social environment that serves alcohol 3-4 nights a week and I've banked $120,000 in the two years that I stopped drinking and doing drugs. And I don't smoke cigarettes or gamble either. Thus, you, Sir, and everyone else who thinks so, are deluding yourselves if you believe this man cannot succeed under adverse conditions.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
There.
I said it.
Somebody had to say it.
I'm taking a break from this place.

There is a third option TDG - you are collecting unemployment to which you paid into for some time. While I appreciate the desire to eat what you kill, what about taking a step back for a period of time and really doing some serious work on yourself as EndGameNYC suggested? Is it possible this desire to get a job is an escape? Why not take a little time and figure things out and then maybe your choices won't be a casino or sandwich shop?

I didn't read all the posts, but you know it's better to stay safe than sorry. Don't take risks, it's not worth it in the long run. I think if you make sandwiches for a while. ..another opportunity will come along and your income will increase in no time.

Who's to say that casino job won't be available six months to a year down the road, after he's successfully navigated early sobriety by making a living at the sandwich place? He might be able to do both, in time anyway. Or, by that time, a better job than the casino will have come along.

TDG we are behind you, I know it was hard with all the responsibilities you have. I didn't know how to answer this earlier although I was leaning against the casino job. It would be like my husband getting a job in an adult movie theater and not watching the movie. Good luck! My son went to Reno last spring with the Reno Jazz Festival, he's a sax player.
Amajorityofone, your right in that some people will work twice as hard as the underdog to succeed, and looking at your name you may just be that one!
I would be dishonest to say I think putting your head in the lions mouth would ever be the way forward even with a commensurate financial reward.
John.
More importantly congratulations at getting a job and good luck with sobriety.
