I think it's b/c we never really "slept" when drinking, at least I know I wasn't. Passing out doesn't = good sleep.
Our poor bodies were deprived of so much for so long. Sleep, vitamins/nutrients, exercise, self care..etc.
No wonder we feel "whack" when we stop.

I think I'm going to kick caffeine as well.

LOL @ word. hahah

JD (heh my initials) - I still struggle with bouts of insomnia after 3 months. They are getting less...thank god.
As for caffeine - I'm still a work in progress on that one

I LOVE coffee. I only drink 2-3 cups per day, always before 10 a.m. Problem is, I like it STRONG.

I do too. I drink the same but have managed to keep it to 2 the last 2 days. I drink a copious amount of green tea though which is still caffeinated. I like the idea of flooding my body with antioxidants.

I was just reflecting on how I used to think that when my hangover symptoms subsided , that I was good to go again. Back to perfect health.

Honestly. I Never gave second thought to the long term damage that was being inflicted on my organs, my blood, my brain.

In sobriety, I realize that is totally preposterous. But in my cups, boy oh boy did I ever have myself convinced. Denial at its finest really.

Not sure how long you drank or at what capacity, but healing and true and deep detoxification takes time.

It's almost as if it gets worse before it gets better. Our bodies and cells become so accustomed to getting battered with alcohol, that when we finally stop, I imagine there are a whole host of misfirings that take place in response.

Just stay the course and before you know it, you will be better than ever.

XO AO

I should switch over to green tea. The only thing for me is, it tastes like I'm drinking soapy water. I can't get down with the stuff without forcing myself.

Have you tried white tea... Really nice & caffeine free. I drink Clipper plus it's organic as well..

Hey, thanks for all your kind advice :-)

I'm glad to hear that this is pretty normal and hopefully will pass with time.

I'm now sat watching Breaking Bad, face pack on with a full tummy of homemade organic chilli - Yums!

No alcohol just fizzy water - cheers x

I find some green tea good and some gross. Starbucks China Green Tips has a nice, fresh flavour that doesn't get all tobacco-y tasting like some green teas do.

Try some different herbal teas, there is some seriously tasty stuff out there.

I'm not sure if there's David's Tea in the US... if there is, it's worth a visit. Expensive as heck, but man, are their teas delicious. They even have a coffee tea that is amazing with minimal caffeine

My current go to beverage is a splash of pomegranate juice in grapefruit flavouring Perrier. Sometimes I get fancy and add a lime twist.

Same here, I've been filling my spare time with Netflix and thought I would try it out.

It's a brilliant program - now onto season 2 :-)

I add a tad of honey and lemon to my teas, both white and green.

Breaking Bad is awesome. I had a marathon one weekend months ago.
Now we're watching "House of Cards" which is also good. I love Kevin Spacey.
Orange is the New Black was frikken amazing too. So sad we have to wait til June next year for the new season.

God Bless Netflix. <3

I did BB in a binge as well, about 6 months ago so I was behind the curve, but totally loved it. I'm thinking about restarting the series and seeing what I missed the first time around.

I tried the first episode of House of Cards but totally cldn't get into it. But maybe I need to try it again.

PS - how's this for a totally derailed thread

Yes it's normal. When I stopped drinking I seriously thought that I would be "cured" in a couple of weeks. Just like everyone said it really does take time. I could honestly say that I drank for 20 years and I am still healing now. Don't let that discourage you though because gradually you will start to feel better. I've kept a video diary and it is amazing the difference from then to now in how I look and feel. From what I have read on here most people say it took them about a year physically and emotionally to adjust. This is just the beginning. Consider this a journey into a new you. You can do it!!! Congratulations on 13 days!!!!
