Well, I'm on day 19 without alcohol and feel pretty good about it. I haven't taken the next step yet, AA. My therapist strongly suggests that I attend meetings, something that I've been reluctant to do. I'm determined that this will be the day. I have a list of local meetings and have even looked at maps/directions to the various meeting places. Nothing left to do but swallow my pride, face my fears and go. Wish me luck.

we in aa have all had to have our first meeting so everyone in the meeting will know how hard it is to come to aa for the first time as we all had to do that as well
enjoy the experience and there nothing you have to do, no membership forms to fill in, no subscriptions to pay, they will not even let you put money into the hat on the first meeting
try different kinds of meetings so you can see the differences between meetings as you might not like your first meeting so try a different kind of meeting if that happens so you can get a good overall picture of aa the fellowship
good luck to you

I toured a wide variety of meetings when I decided to go back to AA. I found one small and friendly one in need of support and members and made it my "homegroup". It's really the only meeting I commit to and where I have found a small little recovery community to lean on in addition to SR. I feel blessed to have found them. AA is full of folks with ideas and suggestions (we addicts can be a bossy, controlling lot)....my only suggestion is to remember this is "your recovery". Be open and listen to it all...but it's still your recovery.
19 days is fantastic
I went AA at first and they helped me still have friends from my time in AA and still consider myself to have a sponser or as he puts it
I don't believe in coincidence these days
You are my brother
And that's after I left AA and we still speak today he is very dear to me
I think a AA mtn will be a excellent place to start there are others routes of recovery but my 1st mtn was out of this world nothing what I expected most looked well dressed and were chatting and laughing I was a wreck I was like huh why are these people so happy
I think you should go
Good luck

Hi and congratulations on your 19 days sober.
When I went to AA my first time I was still drinking. I was warmly welcome but had many apprehensions and was told to keep coming and if after 90 meetings I still had misgivings my misery would refunded.
I eventually got sober and haven’t looked back for many years.
BE WELL

Here is a good article for first time AAers. It is a bit of a read but very good.

Your First AA Meeting
Thanks for all of the encouragement. It really helped to give me that extra push I needed. I attended my first meeting a few hours ago and am so glad that I did. The people there were kind and welcoming and even though I was a nervous wreck the whole time it was a great experience. I have a list of phone numbers to call if I need to talk to someone and plan on attending again tomorrow.
