is an all inclusive holiday possible to survive? HOW?

I just went to Club Med in Cancun. It was booked months before I went sober. I managed but it was hard. I arranged a tennis lesson at 8:30am in the morning, that seemed to help.
But if you can change it, that would be ideal. Just reading the above posts, I think I would avoid all-inclusive in future.

Damn, free drinks all week.......that'd be tough......for me anyway....
a lot of good food and many (all day and all night) were getting mighty drunk there
I was not tempted in any way to drink
but, I had been beaten down by the liquid devil too many times
to act as the fool yet again
you say that you are struggling to make it today
when the time comes for your trip
I would not go if you are still in that same condition
no reason to tempt the devil

I would change it to a non all inclusive, at least. My husband hit 9 months sober last week when we were on a week long trip to Mexico. We intentionally rented a condo rather than an all in. On the first morning he got up with his AA books to read and meditate, and then he turned to me with a panic in his eyes and said, "Remind me why Incan't drink, again. I mean, I know, but I just need you to remind me. I listed off some reasons for him and told him I could get him set up with an account on this board if he wanted, and that if he posted about having cravings he'd have 20 messages from his peers supporting him.mThat helped him over the hump, and he did great, but he definitely said he felt tempted from time to time in that beach, vacay atmosphere, and he was glad we nixed the idea of the all in. Plus, our condo was amazing and we got to go to lots of great different restaurants for dinner, while saving money making breakfast and lunch in the condo (plus by not drinking!).
Best of lunch-great you have a supportive partner!

[QUOTE=NorMar;4869598]I wonder if your travel agent, if you used one, could recommend a trip to Mexico that is geared toward non drinkers. I have found Cancun and that area to be heavily slanted toward alcohol. Puerto Vallarta however not so much. Still a risk, but you are to be commended for being willing to change your plans to maintain your sobriety.
hi normar, im going to secrets Vallarta bay hotel in Puerto Vallarta, with Thomson holidays. looks lush but am trying to be realistic, will have a look at those sites, thank you.

thank you so much everybody for your advice, we are going to the travel agents to discuss the options of transferring it to a different type of holiday like a private escorted tour, or even cut down from the all in so we have to pay for drinks, that way temptation is less. if im really struggling, we may do a flydrive and villa. third full day of soberness nearly completed today. day by day. thanks guys.
