Facing giving up friends
Facing giving up friends
So it's Friday and as usual my friends want to come round to my place and get drunk and take drugs. Told them straight up it wasn't happening anymore, doctors orders. They seemed dissapointed but got the message.
I just realised these people can't be my friends any more. Not because they're not good people, I like them a lot. I wish we could be friends. But I can't be around alcoholics/drug addicts. Not ever.
That might sound cold but it's just something I have to do. I could kid myself and hope they get sober too but I know that's not happening.
Damn, that hurts.

It doesn't sound cold, just reality.
I found I could get together with friends who drank when it wasn't a drinking situation. Mostly my work buddies.
But I think you're doing the right thing. You have to put yourself fist.

yup, you gotta take care of YOU.
Sobriety first. It's unfortunate that sometimes we have to walk away from relationships/friendships, but at the end of the day if they are detrimental to you staying sober, they have to go.
