Fired, its over, the job I loved is gone!
Well, tonight I got the call, mental reasons alcoholism, and other stuff, I am fired, its over, sucks, I loved my job, I really wanted to return, but they can't legal higher me anymore. So sad, I knew it was probably going happen, but this is the end, and I was also told by the big boss they are going to argue unemployment, we will see, but this saddens me so much this is it, its over. No more chances lest a miracle happen its over! Sigh, why can't I be normal?
I am really sorry you have lost the job you love, TDG.
Please remember, and you said it yourself in a recent thread, you are doing the right thing for you in the long run. Take care of yourself. You are worth taking the risks and doing the hard work to get the help you need.

TDG contact your state and/or federal Equal Employment Office. You may have an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) claim. Not saying you do, I am not a lawyer, but in some cases employers can not discriminate especially if you are in or seeking treatment.
Just a thought.

I recommend immediately filing for SSI and SSD. That does not mean you can't work again but it is good to have it in the works in light of no unemployment.
I put it off for a long, long time and hope that others might learn from my mistake that was very hard on me and costly.
I also agree with Drake.

I will be unemployed as well, this Friday.
23 years at the same job, and it was a job I grew to like.
But, It's time to move on and embrace the bad with the good.
It's life and I need to deal with it.
We'll both be fine, we just need to pull up the boot straps and get going on a new challenge.
Certainly better than hiding in a bottle.

TDG, I know that feeling quite well. I have lost at least 5 jobs due to alcoholism/depression. You should have a few resources in your community to help in the mean time. Besides the monetary aspect of the jobs I have lost, I hated every one them. Greener pastures ahead! Just get well and focus on your health.

Alcohol & Alcoholism = "The great removers"
Jobs, Spouses, Children, Cars, Licences, Houses, Finances ...
Par for the course unfortunately & it's happened to a great many of us.
But you don't have to lose more. Seek help

My condolensces, unfortunately i'm all too familiar with that horribly un-easy feeling of realizing there suddenly won't be anymore checks coming........ that's the type of stuff that keeps you up at night. It sucks
No doubt a common story in today's terrible economy.
i am going to second what everyone else is saying and recommend you go sign up/start drawing EVERYTHING you can get or qualify for immediately....... UI, SSI, SSD, food stamps, etc. No reason to wait on any of that, "waiting" just means you are leaving money on the table. There's no "pride" in a situation like this, remember that! You gotta do what u gotta do to survive!
Best of luck with your job search.......... and remember it's "survival mode" until something else comes along, get as much government cheese as you can qualify for!

That sucks, TDG, but as others have said keep perspective on it. No matter how much you liked the job you will like life more! And family. You will find another job, and you will probably find something that you really like. But you have to get healthy first. Otherwise anything you try to do will be built on a foundation laid down on sand instead of bedrock.
Take care of you! The rest will come.
But do check into SSI and disability.

I am sorry for your situation.
When I was drinking, I had trouble at a job and quit for medical reasons. I was able to collect unemployment. When you deal with the unemployment people, just say you were let go for medical reasons. You can probably do it all online, although I did get interviewed over the telephone.
There are plenty of employers who are thrilled to have a sober worker. Best wishes!

I've been fired before from a job I really loved. It was truly as painful as any break up I've ever had, I mean that. It sucks and the pain is real. But all things end, you'll find something else.
Going back to the break up idea it's similar, you can only see what you've lost, not the opportunity.
