There is no such thing as a manageable little binge

Just a reminder. Not with a train, not on a plane, not in the privacy of your own home, not by planning the money flow or the exit plan. If you're thinking there's such a thing as a manageable little binge, just clamp down on this avowal: manageability is the very first thing that goes out the window when you embark on that trip. And the reality of unmanageability will exceed your wildest and worst dreams.

Have a good, strong sober weekend, everyone!

Very sound advice!!

Once I convinced myself I could control alcohol, that this time would be different, I was already defeated!!

Changing up my perspective on that first drink was when the penny dropped!!

Thanks so much for posting this. The last time I drank I thought I could have "a manageable binge"... Wrong!!! It was so unamanageable in every which possible way. So here I am on day 26 of my sobriety, again. I'll keep working at my sobriety, but absolutely nothing about that binge was worth it. Nothing!

Amen. Every planned drinking experiment I ever tried was dead on the first sip. Either I let fly and guzzled more than I had planned, or I was miserable. Usually the former.

Thanks, courage; truer words were never spoken. No such thing a moderation or a manageable little binge for me.

Yeah I needed to read this today as my head has been wondering after only a week off that last horrible come down. How strange our brains can still think its a good thing that we can manage 'this time'. Not today.

So true. The big change for me started when I accepted, and didn't just repeat the words to myself and others, that I could not under any circumstances drink safely.
I began to see alcohol as a substance that I, for some reason that I may possibly never understand, cannot use like normal people.
I accepted I am not like normal people.
And, I am okay not being normal in that respect.

This reminds me of Green Eggs & Ham. Not on a train, not in a plane, not in a car, not in a house, not with a mouse, not in a box, not with a fox...

I will not drink alcohol, Sam I Am!!!

When I post a warning, it's to myself as much as to anybody else.

Indeed. It's a nasty freight train that does not want to stop.

Much appreciated!
I must admit I had a wistful hope (for a second there) you were gonna tell me how to have a controlled binge... The kick up the butt is much needed. Day 7 here.
