Just back from medicated detox

Hi all, I haven't written in here for a while but in the past 6 months things went from bad to worse in my home life, at work etc so I started drink not one but 2 bottles of wine a day/night. One day I woke up with a measle type rash all over my legs. Not bumpy or itchy or anything so went to docs who sent me to A&E. Long and short of it is that I was malnourished and I have alcoholic hepatitis. They kept me in and detoxed me through meds and banana bags 4 times a day along with 16 pills a day to start with. Previously at home when I tried to stop I hallucinated auditory and I saw things as well as feeling like I was going to have a heart attack. During my time in hosp I had an hr a day with an alcohol liaison nurse who basically spoke the most sense I've ever actually listened to. Now first night back home and I haven't drank and am also not scared of having the withdrawals either as it was done under supervised care. I'm only on day 7 but I don't even want to touch alcohol ever again - truly. I was paying lip service to myself and everyone around me for years about wanting to stop. I urge anyone to please follow the same route as it's changed my perspective completely. Normal liver enzymes are 40, mine were 400!!!! Wake up call. Please please speak to your GP and do it the right way, as an alcoholic I was never going to do it on my own. Don't be afraid to reach out for help - it's out there!! And I was never made to feel bad or not a 'proper' patient - it's an illness like any other. Lots of love xxx

Give it hell, Swindon. If you think that the nurse made a lot of sense, go to AA meetings regularly - fellow alcoholics seem to have made the best sense I have heard.
