Tools
Tools? This might sound like a silly question but what are Tools for sobriety? I only seem to have willpower at this moment which carries me only so far. So could someone please elaborate for me?
I think tools can be anything that helps you in your recovery.
For me, my tools are:
- books on spirituality and well-being
- SR and my friends here
- walking
- music that I love
- meditating
- journaling
- my cats

Prayer
Picking up the phone
Connecting to others
HALT – Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired (these can be triggers)
Sleep – Sometimes I just cut the day off at the knees and go to bed early
AA meetings
Coming on SR
Crochet
All of these help get my mind to another place and away from me. If I concentrate on me then I am thinking and spinning. If I can get away from myself, even for a little while, I can slow the spin down and relax.

They're the things we do when a craving starts, the things that get you through another 24hrs Sober, those things that help with the journey!!
Alcohol used to be my tool for life, it numbed anything I didn't want to feel, so I now need to replace it with other things to deal with life in a Sober way, new habits, activities etc!!

For me, my tools in my "toolbox", are the things that I can do or utilize so that I don't drink. My primary tools would be:
-checking in on SR on a daily basis
-regularly attending my counseling sessions and being very very honest so that I can continue to work through many issues that played in to my drinking history
-being mindful of the nutrition I put in to my body
-reading/studying about addiction, alcoholism so I can better understand what makes me tick
-crocheting, being outdoors, hanging out with my son, playing with my dog, massage therapy, reading (lots)
-not getting too off my daily schedule as I don't deal well with change
-taking my medication on a regular basis
-getting plenty of sleep each night
This is a great question! Are you starting to find some tools that are working for you?
