Hi all 4 days sober and checking in!
Hi everyone!
I actually stumbled on this site a few nights ago and after a few days I wanted to come back and say reading everyone's stories really helped me out a lot. I sort of had an epiphany moment 4 days ago after hearing my mother has bowel cancer (early onset, caught in time and she's heading into surgery this month) it really hit me hard.
I'm 31, female, been drinking about one bottle of red a night for a few years now on and off and and I realized I'd just had enough. I hated the idea I was so dependent on my next night's booze I would seriously put it ahead of family. So I quit.
Going cold turkey was probably a risky move but I was very determined to follow it through. The first night wasn't so bad, just really alert and awake, bit of gas pain. Night two, pain in the sides and a little bit of heartburn, but last night (night three) was definitely the worst of it. Bad heart burn, pain around the ribcage, racing heart, I was ready to head to the ER for a heart attack but on the other side of it (day 4) I feel like a curtain is lifting and the pain has gone though I am sweating a lot.
Guessing its those toxins finding a way out. All in all I know I've been fairly lucky, my detoxing (thus far) has been easy compared to some but if there's anyone else out there scared to take the plunge - I just thought I'd share that there is hope. You can definitely get there.

Welcome to SR, jc1983. It is a very helpful forum, lots of people like ourselves.
I never thought I could live without alcohol but visiting here and reading many experiences and having a moan when I was struggling and I managed to get over a year sober. I feel if I can do this you can too.
Congratulations on day 4.
