Introducing Myself

Hi,
This is my first time on a site like this.

I am a homemaker and mother of 2.
My husband and I were to be empty
nesters this year however, my FIL and
BIL came to live with us a couple of
years ago. Everything is wonderful
except that my BIL is a raging alcoholic.

It's not quite that simple, though. He
is also FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome).
He doesn't think he has a problem but
it is really affecting our family.

This is my husband's half brother. My
BIL's mother is a lovely woman who is
almost 13 years sober.
She has tried to help to no avail.

I am hoping to glean some helpful
advice from some of the members here.

Thanks!

Hi and Welcome!

I'm glad you found us.

You might like to check out AlAnon as a support for you. If you brother-in-law doesn't believe he needs help, there is very little you can do. Have you considered asking him to live elsewhere?

We also have a forum for Friends & Families on this board.

Thanks, Anna.
My FIL is disgusted and has given up. He
raised my BIL mostly on his own. BIL
is 34 and can not live on his own. He
has tried and doesn't even understand
a budget.
FIL doesn't want to go to Al-A-Non.
I asked him this morning.

BIL is like an 8 year old and has never
had testing for his FAS.
I'll check out the other forum you suggested.

Thanks for responding.

welcome to the forum, I'm old school and don't do text acronyms very well. After the first couple my eyes glaze over and it turns into hieroglyphics to me.

Plenty of support here. Glad you found us.

Thanks for the welcome.
I have been checking it out but I was really hoping to find something specific to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
My Brother-In-Law is back at it today (starts before noon) and remembers nothing of the night before when he came home staggering and blind drunk. My 71 year-old Father-In-Law and I both had to help him into the house and up the stairs to bed. He got up 4 hours later, ate and started drinking again.
He usually gets up at 10:30 and starts drinking within an hour or so of waking up.

I really hate this.

I'd make him move elsewhere. There's no reason he should be disrupting your life. Give him a month to find his own place.
