Almost 11 Months

I will be 11 months sober on August 2nd but I am going away on a little vacation so I thought I would write my monthly post today. I can hardly believe that I am so close to coming up on a year sober. It seemed practically impossible during my first 90 days of living sober. But I have learned so much since then and my life is definitely better than it was because I made the decision to quit poisoning myself with alcohol. Some unexpected benefits of sobriety include better boundary setting skills in personal and professional relationships, increased self-respect, more self-confidence, better sex, and tremendous emotional healing and growth.

Then there are the expected benefits having more discretionary income, more rewarding relationships, better sleep, more free time, better general health, weight control, less drama and stress in general, less anxiety, no depression, a return of old passions and hobbies, and a more thorough enjoyment of the pleasures in life.

Thanks fellow SR members for being here to support me through the journey so far. I got to 11 months by living one day at a time, if I can do it so can you.

Excellent post F4L. I just passed 9-month mark and I agree on all points, especially how impossible this seemed in the first 90-days.

I honestly know the feeling about those first 90 days. The constant nervousness and anxiety now only to be washed away by almost a year of sobriety! Congratulations, I hope to be joining you this November!

P.s.....I like how you mentioned better boundary setting as a benefit of sobriety. I never thought of it, but I am feeling less of a pushover these days. It comes from increased self respect, as you mentioned also. I am being more assertive and am not letting people walk over me at work, anyway. Wow, why did we drink? The benefits certainly outweigh the slight pleasure. Everything is affected when we give up the booze.....again, thanks for the post. This is how we help each other. This is how it works.

Congratulations!!! I just had my ten month anniversary and I agree with you about the self respect I have gained and thus, more respect from others. It has been my latest aha moment of sobriety. The gifts just keep on coming . . .

Great job on 11 months!

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's nice to know it does get easier; I'm only on day 26 but feel great about those 26 days knowing that as long as I don't pick up that first drink, it gets easier with time.

Happy vacation!
