100 days today

hey all

today is my 100th day of sobriety. i am astonished. AA works for me, as long as i work the program.

that aside, my head is so much clearer. i'm having relationship stress at the moment - my marriage to my ex-husband didn't survive my getting sober, and we split last december.

i have lived on my own (well, with my cat!) since january. in the last couple of months i have met and fallen in love with a new guy, who sadly has so much emotional baggage that i don't think it can work.

the one constant, however, is my sobriety.

this is the longest i have been sober, ever, and it feels awesome. i couldn't go an hour without a drink at the end, let alone a day, and here i am with 100 of them!

if i can do this, you can do this, i promise. i don't exactly know how i feel today, but i know i don't ever want to drink again.

thanks SR for the continued support.

Well done on 100 days - that is amazing.

Being sober is the most important thing, sorry about your relationship issues and I hope you find some resolve.

One day at a time.

Congrats on the 100 days - I am glad AA is working for you. Have you thought about Al-Anon? Its great for relationships and identifying codependency, which can be an addiction of itself. Relationships and early sobriety I find don't mix well. It might be helpful to better understand the motives behind your desire to be with someone else?

Good luck.

thanks all.

jdooner - you are spot on in that i need to examine my motives. i have so easily slipped into people-pleasing with this man and i don't like it. i had a tough day yesterday and he came round - then abruptly left, texted to say he can't cope with the 'extra ****' i'm putting on him and i haven't heard from him since. this from the man who on monday was telling me he loves me.

this f*cking disease colours every part of my life. i'm in close contact with my sponsor, writing out my step 9 amends and i need to keep the momentum going.

sucks though.

Be gentle on yourself, your doing a great job. Its quite easy to substitute addictions when we remove our coping mechanism...its survival actually. The steps are designed to remove some of this underlying baggage that leads us to drink. This is a journey and for me was about changing my roots and branches.

With respect to your step nine this is an action step. You step #8, list of people you harmed should have been complete in the second part of step #5. Did you read your step #4 inventory to someone? If so, the resentments and fears that had column four checks should be you list of amends. You and your sponsor should discuss where these fall into the immediate, later, and never categories though.

Good luck.

i did my 4 and 5 with my sponsor - it was a 13-hour day! i have my list of people and institutions i need to make amends to, and i'm working my way through them.

i can't emphasise enough to people how much working the steps has changed my life. the mental obsession has lifted - just the odd craving (which is still horrible!).
