Withdrawal? How worried should I be?

At my worst I was drinking 10 beers a night on week nights and 12 on weekends. I ended up seeing a doctor and got a script for benzos and detoxed at home with almost no symptoms. Librium is the DOC, but they gave me xanax. Prettymuch any benzo will do. They only gave me 5 pills but that was more than sufficient to get through withdrawals. Looking back, I would have paid 100 bucks per pill, that's how effective they were for me.
I went into my first rehab 5 or 6 years ago. I don't remember getting there, or how I got there. I "came to" about 24 hrs. later, I was told. I was told I was blowin' (or bleedin', lol) .40. They put me on pretty heavy Librium and tapered me off over the next week or so. I don't remember discomfort that time.
As an aside, I was given the nickname "Dougie Fresh" by my peers. The name stuck the whole month I was there with all kinds of addicts to all kinds of substances. It was at a small separate sub-section of a large mental health facility. We dined in a common cafeteria with the rest of the "crazies" but were told to minimize mingling. The whole experience was very professional, very educational and actually fun. It didn't stick, I guess I wasn't ready, but I'll never forget a minute of it... after the first day of course.

just a thought but have you thought of tapering? i been drinking a pint of cheap vodka and sometimes a lil bit more everyday for last four months straight and i start feeling weird scary things with my heart and my blood pressure rockets every morning after 6 hours of not drinking so i worked out a taper plan long and slow and so far no problems other than the usual stuff excessive drinking gives you!

Hi and welcome Bandit
Just to let you know we don't generally recommend tapering here, unless it's a taper suggested and supervised your Dr.
We don't let people recommend it for others either.
There so many things that could go wrong - unless you're really knowledgeable and diligent it may be no safer than cold turkey.
Also generally I think a lot of us found that tapering just didn't work in the long run.
I know I tried many times and never got down to zero.
