Eleventh Step Prayer - Slight revision

Hey all...

Yesterday my sponsor reminded me of the Eleventh Step Prayer. I had read it before but I guess it just really didn't register because it seemed new when I looked it up.

My relationship and understanding of a Higher Power isn't aligned with terms like "Lord" and doesnt' match with the Christian notion of the all knowing God in the sky - yet I really do resonate with the idea that moving through it all, a mysterious power that we can relate with and be touched by is there....

Anyway, today I woke up and found some new things unfolding that brought me the sense of 'knowing' that this force is at work and that when we take the time to relate with and align to it, things really do flow better for us, for those around us.

I thought I'd share that prayer - slightly revised to soften the Christian edges - here. To me, even the most atheist non-believer can embrace this prayer and still find it working in their lives sooner or later;

Today, let me be an instrument of peace!
That where there is hatred,
I may bring love.
That where there is wrong,
I may bring the spirit of forgiveness.
That where there is discord,
I may bring harmony.
That where there is error,
I may bring truth.
That where there is doubt,
I may bring faith.
That where there is despair,
I may bring hope.
That where there are shadows,
I may bring light.
That where there is sadness,
I may bring joy.
Grant that I may seek rather to comfort,
than to be comforted.
To understand,
than to be understood.
To love,
than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.

Have a great day everyone.

I am going to print that prayer and keep it at my desk and work and on the fridge at home. Thanks for sharing!

On Sunday night my wife and I attend an 11th step meeting and it's my favorite meeting of the week! After the readings we read the 11th step prayer and then we meditate/pray on how grateful we are for our sobriety for 10 minutes before anyone shares, it's an amazing way to end the week!

that is the st Francis of Assisi prayer

i dont use it as a prayer as such but i use it for my set of instructions on how i should be trying to live my life : ) it is a good read and for me my very nature is to do the exact oppersite of what those instructions set out for me
its not natural at all for me
hence i have to work at is each day and every min of the day at times

The prayer of St. Francis is indeed beautiful! Bill W repeated it daily/often - as Desypete stated it is a set of instructions and this is how Bill W verbalized and lived it.

Great share.......
