so I went cold turkey all on my own and survived, but nothing was fun when sober, i thought it would get better but it didnt, i hated my job and was looking for shortcuts, in the process I lost all my retirement, $95,000 on penny stocks

I'm sorry you didn't find happiness in sobriety.

Maybe the looking for shortcuts thing was the problem?

It took me a year or so to really turn things around and start to feel good about myself and my life.

The way I saw it was I was building the foundations of a new life. I don't think you can skimp on that. You need to be patient.

You need a good support network too.

Did you have one, and use it Depreciator?

Thank you for the kind sentiments, i do not have a support network other than this forum. In my profession It is not wise for anyone to know my weakness

Welcome back! I realize from experience that in the beginning stuff is "no fun sober". But that doesn't last forever. It gets better!

What you lost can be regained. You can't replace your life. If SR is your main support system, then use it. We're here to listen and help where we can.

Being a recovering alcoholic isn't a weakness...but being a drinking one is.

Friend, I am a registered Professional Engineer in several NE states. Not seeking help through AA, other fellowships or professional council is not a good idea. Addiction is progressive and will get you when you least expect it and odds are it won't be pretty. I've been there. These groups are anonymous, you might even meet a colleague with similar issues (a good thing...).
With help, courage and a bit of humility your life, health and work will improve. There is no shame in reaching out.

My best..reach out..,
