so so true

A friend sent me the poem below recently in a card and I can relate to it so much. I have spent far too long dwelling on the past and worrying about the future, when all I have is the here and now. After all if you spend all of your time with one foot in the past and one foot in the future you **** all over the present.

I walked in Memory Lane today. It was roses all the way.
Until I heard a voice that said - turn back. Walk not the path ahead
But on I pressed till suddenly, thorns and nettles tortured me
My fingers bled, my sleeve was rent as down the tangled track I went
Go not too often or too far - along the road where memories are
But find content and pleasures new in what the present holds for you

I am having great difficulty dealing with my past. I have only recently begun to face it as I have been off anti-depressants for a few months. It's like a knee-jerk reaction that I can't seem to control when an old memory comes up. I can't watch movies or read a book because of the torment.

Hi. Some things are tough to let go of. I found that the past is history and I can learn from it by not repeating my past mistakes. Most things that saddened me had something to do with my consuming of alcohol. Today I’m free of that problem only because I don’t drink. When we think back there was seldom a situation that was relieved by drinking, usually drinking made things worse.

In the beginning I needed to remind myself that if I didn’t have the first drink I wouldn’t have to get sober AGAIN.

BE WELL
